How Do You Learn Math Best???

Seriously, and further to our classroom discussion, when considering things like Accelerated Math, graphing calculators, computers, the internet, YouTube, wikis, podcasts, blogs, etc....Is it a wonder at all that students learn anything in my classroom? What works the best for you? Or... what suggestions do you have that may improve what we're doing on a day to day basis in class. Please be honest, but also please be respectful of the fact that we're in a learning environment...

This is and should be a conversation starter...so let's hear what your classmates have to say:

I think that maybe you shouldn't allow students to get their computers or graphing calculators until you're done teaching. Other than that, I think the class is going good

I think you should just keep teaching the way you have been.

I think that the class is going great so far, but some people take notes on note pad so i think taking computers away from the learning environment is a bad idea. KEEP TEACHING THE WAY YOU ARE!!!

I believe that I could learn math best in a variety of ways that way its not the boring traditional classroom procedure. And we can learn how do things in a variety of ways. I think that you should still teach the class the same way you do now, that way you can learn how to do it for sure not just guessing and hoping you get it right in accelerated math, and if someone is to intimidated to ask for help they with keep getting it wrong and if someone doesn’t get to that particular objective in accelerated math and when time to write the final exam rolls around that person will get it wrong on the exam. I think you should still keep teaching math the way you do. You rock lol math rules!!!!!!!

Well last semester I took pre-calc and I didn't do very well but, I still have my notes and I find I can learn better from them than who taught my last year. Or it could just be that I’m a bit more of a visual learner and I’m pretty good with technology (oh yah, I remember when I got my first e-mail address (using my address provided by the division), it was grade 5 and we were doing it for a pen pal thing somewhere on the other side of the world, my teacher then, we were in the computer lab all day all year, whenever we could, if it was open we were in their, guess what we did three quarters of the time… we typed and typed and typed nonstop, right after that year I made my own email address using hotmail). I still like classic verbal/chalk board teaching (I’ll add your method to this list, I don’t think it’s much different) because it gives me a chance to MAKE my OWN notes, things I can understand days after the lesson.

I agree with anonymous (es). Don't stop or I'll have to change my learning methods again. The computer does distract me a little when you’re teaching something I know but, you (he/Mr. Max) does warn us about these distractions and I think (at least) I'm responsible enough to "close my lid" and pay attention at the front. I just love having a computer in front of me all after noon :) (I do wonder what I got myself into when I signed up for GIS, gosh, two month field project!).

keep things the way they are. no restricitons because people do use computers to make notes and learn different ways. And they people who want to learn will listen and not play on the internet.
